June 4-6, 2016. Carles Nebot gets a new world record UMCA 1,000 km. Track Indoor.
The new attempt starts at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Lluis Puig Velodrome Palace in Valencia (Spain).
It is going at a good pace, covering the first 100 km at an average of 32 km / h. the months of training are noticed.
A lot of heat in the velodrome touching the 30º C. Night comes and the stomach begins to accuse dehydration. The medical team manages to control this problem at 5 o'clock in the morning when I pick up the good rhythm again. I can roll comfortably above 30 km / h.
I get 500 km. Half the route in 20 hours. This makes me fear that my goal of covering 1,000 km. in 40 hours escape, understanding that the second half of the test was going to be harder.
Sunrise on Sunday, June 5
I'm keeping a good rhythm. My goal of finishing the test in 40 hours escapes me. But seeing how hard it is to ride a velodrome, my approach is to be able to cover 1,000km.
At 9:00 AM there are already 24 hours of challenge and I can travel 590 km. the stops are repeated more than expected, but health is the first and applying this new strategy there are many possibilities to finish.
This is how the afternoon of the 5th arrives and everything presages that I will surpass the end time after 12:00 midnight. The velodrome bleachers are filled with friends who come to cheer. Although with a little delay, everything goes perfectly, I assimilate well food and drink, and without any mishap with the bicycle. 219/5000 At 9:00 AM there are already 24 hours of challenge and I can travel 590 km. the stops are repeated more than expected, but health is the first and applying this new strategy there are many possibilities to finish.
Night comes and the pace does not go down, always rolling above 30 km / h. more and more near the end and the forces although fair do not decay and the mood either. 700km. 80km. 900km the end approaches but in my head it seems endless.
Night comes and the pace does not go down, always rolling above 30 km / h. more and more near the end and the forces after 1:00 in the morning I started to suffer the problems derived from sleep, very characteristic in the second night without sleep, as are the "hallucinations" the brain does not interpret the images received by the eyes well. The lights, shadows, Velodrome lines at times suggest branches, cobblestone streams, steps, aware of what is happening to me and their motives, missing 40 km. for the 1,000 km. I decide to make a stop to oxygenate the brain and eat a little bit with
I get up and I'm still aiming for the 1,000km
In the absence of 8 km the fatigue is tremendous and in the Velodrome team, friends from the stands are distributed every 10 meters to give me shouting. Palms to keep me from falling asleep. As I am more than three seconds looking at the floor of the track I feel that I am hypnotized and I do not coordinate, to avoid this I raise my head looking up and up, thus singing the remaining laps until the end I get the last round between the yelling and applause from those attending there. I cross the finish line and I feel like I'm going to cry and I do not have the strength to do so.
Hugs with the team members could finally end when 24 hours before it seemed like it was impossible
